Anyone who owns a nice digital camera or smartphone and enjoys taking photos will at some point in their life want to take even better photos. Whether you are a beginner in photography or already take a lot of photos and consider yourself an amateur photographer, there are various ways to learn:
For me as a photographer, a photography textbook is always just a learning aid. There are good and bad learning books. But of course an inexpensive book on the subject of "digital photography" can help you. With a book on photography, we photographers have a free choice of time, a low price and many books to choose from. But will we manage to work through a learning book?
Personally, however, I rarely manage to find a book interesting enough to read it in its entirety. And then there's the fact that a textbook doesn't take my prior knowledge into account, nor can it answer my spontaneous questions. This solution is really bad if the book is also boring. In contrast to the Learn photography online reading does not take place in front of a monitor.
A book is theory. It lacks the practice of photography and the support of photography.
My opinion: You can't learn photography from a book, but it can be an aid for reference.
A VHS photography course is usually inexpensive. And the number of students has the advantage that we can exchange our knowledge. In the best case scenario, we find a nice person with whom we can share our hobbies.
Anyone who has already done a few courses at the VHS knows the time problem. The dates are fixed and we may not have time for all of them. Or participants become ill and the course is cancelled for us. That's annoying. Just as annoying for most of us is when not enough participants turn up. And then no one is really satisfied: With 10 participants, five are usually underchallenged and five are overchallenged. That makes 10 dissatisfied participants. Last but not least, one of the students always asks the instructor questions about topics that have long since been answered. You know that too, don't you?
My opinion: The VHS photo course is often nowhere near as intensive as an individual photo course.
A group photography course is like a music lesson where I want to learn guitar but meet students who are learning tuba and piano. Too many different characters, different cameras, different prior knowledge guarantee that you can burn your money better.
Group courses are a waste of money.
advantages Customised online photo course with personal trainer. In a personalised online photo course (1:1 participant and trainer), you learn exactly what you want. You are free to choose your own dates, save time and money, can ask all your questions and are free to choose your distance learning course. Learning photography online is quick and easy.
My opinion: The best individual online photo course with a personal trainer is based on your expertise.
How does a personalised online photo course work? You simply make an appointment and we talk on the phone or use software such as Skype. For image composition or image editing, you download free remote maintenance software and I can watch you as a trainer on your computer and even operate the mouse and keyboard to help you and show you solutions.
After the theoretical part, I usually give a photographic homework assignment on the subject of your choice. You then have time to take photos. In another online photography course, we talk about the composition of your photographs (and also about image editing). This is a very easy way to learn photography online. Experience shows:
The success of these personalised online photo courses is enormous.

Note: Here you will find all information about your individual online photo course >>
The individual photography course has these advantages:
The principle is 1 plus 1 - participant plus trainer. In other words, a photo course in which you can ask all your questions at your leisure and learn what you have always wanted to know. Many photo students of the Roskothen School of Photography have told me (P. Roskothen) as a trainer that they learnt more in the few hours of their individual photography course than in a VHS photography course. This 1:1 training principle naturally also applies to my online photo courses.
In the live course, we take photos after the theory. This means that you, as a participant, take photos and I give you tips and tricks for practice. I will show you new ideas, perspectives and ways to expose and organise the image. You will be given creative keys and, if you wish, a task that you can solve with your new knowledge.
Tip: You can take the photo course at any age with any camera or smartphone. And you can also freely choose the photo theme (portrait, animal photos, nature photos, macro photos,...) with us!
Now you might say: "Of course the trainer thinks his photography course is great.". That's true, but I also have a lot of experience and the photo students prove me right. The many comments and the evaluation forms after the photo course show that live individual training is the best way to have even more fun with photography. You can read all about it here:

You can earn a lot of money in one go with group photo courses. That's why so many trainers and amateur photographers offer group courses. Unfortunately, in group courses with eight participants, for example, four participants are usually underchallenged and four participants are overchallenged. And one person asks all the questions, usually those that are of no interest to anyone else. The rule is: the larger the number of participants, the less efficient a group course is. This means that €80 may feel temptingly cheap at first, but then it may be wasted money. The most important question: Can someone supervise you personally in the group course? Does the trainer know your camera inside out? How much time does the trainer have for me in the group photo course?
As a professional photographer and photo trainer, I have decided to offer only successful, individualised photo courses. Word has got around about my better photo courses. The individual photo course with a personal meeting and my 1:1 online photo course are based precisely on your expertise. I can respond precisely to your knowledge of image composition, camera technology and shooting techniques. You ask your questions and I give you personalised answers. This is not only fast and efficient, but also to the point. The free choice of dates in consultation with me is also a plus point.
You will get to know your camera, exposure, perspective, discovering motifs, image composition, image editing, printing photos and whatever you like. You ask questions and get answers, you can choose your own topics and learn more. After the basics comes the art of photography.
